CHRISTMAS...

Christmas is the time to remember the birth of our savior, our LORD, Jesus. It is the time to spend with our families and friends. A time for merrymaking, for sharing and for realizing. It is the time when people stop whatever that is keeping them busy over the year and spending their time instead on enjoying things they haven't enjoyed for awhile.
This year's Christmas is well. My second semester allowance arrived on schedule. My father got home safely and we, me and my highschool classmates, had our reunion. Not only that, I also bought myself a new phone---a 5310 xpress music. I saw some of my old friends whom I haven't seen for quite a long time. But I'm not really happy this Christmas. My close uncle died this month. He had an unsuccessful operation that led to his death. I'm sad for his family, especially to his children, my cousins, who are still too young to lose a father. Nevertheless, this year's Christmas isn't so bad.

when themodernpoe writes...II

Here we are again.

Last Tuesday our teacher had this really fun activity on writing a collaborative paragraph where each group member would add what their groupmate had already written. It was also a time-pressured activity and guess what, I'm the time keeper. Well, I was slightly biased. hahaha announcing the time only when my group had finished writing. Though it wasn't really necessary cause my groupmates were really good. (that includes me :D) After that activity, we had a "boogle-like" quiz where our teacher tested our vocabulary. It was more like a contest actually. A contest which is sad to say, I didn't win.haha I only got 3 points!lol

Another thing that worth mentioning, last Friday we took our JEEP placement exam. It was like a test to find what level we are in our English skills. I got 2.7 in my placement level which means that I don't have to pay 1200 php for a JEEP course.:D :D

That's all and out.

when themodernpoe writes...

Last Tuesday, I went to school a bit early to buy my English book. I was kind of excited to purchase one. Little did I know of the chain of events that would happen that day. A bit jumpy to buy a book, I rushed to the English Department. "English2 ma'am, the red one (since there are two books:red and blue)" I told the in-charge. She eyed me then scowled (she did scowl!) "Hurot na raba dai" it's already sold out, she said. I was really dismayed. I hadn't made my assignment yet! Half-hearted, I went to my first class (Filipino) and asked my classmates if they had made their English assignment. And unsurprisingly, they didn't.haha I borrowed their book and answered since our teacher was late--good heavens!! I made my assignment while studying at the same time. Poor kid--no book, no assignment!! I should make my Poor-KID-Association. haha. Our English class went well though, I explained why I hadn't still have a book and my teacher, GOD Bless her, understood. My day went smoothly until one of my classmates asks why I'm using "themodernpoe"? Am I fantasizing being the next Edgar Allan Poe? Or Fernando Poe?hahaha I answered her that I want to be the next "Winnie-the-POE" hahar. :D Well, I am still thinking why I entitled myself "themodernpoe". It's kind of a self imposed title that I made myself back in high-school. I was--and still am--an avid reader (or fan if you prefer) of Edgar Allan Poe and his mystery stories, macabre and lyrical poems. I too are writing stories and poems in this genre (it isn't like what Poe write!!haha I'm still working on it). The other reason was actually stupid--I was pissed of with my classmate who called himself the modern Shakespeare. Blah blah.haha. Did my introduction made it sound that my day went bad?

selecting and narrowing of topic

specific topic:evolution of rock musicG
Thesis Statement: Rock Music, like technology, changes through time-- from the rock and roll of Elvis Presley until the guitar-drum screaming of present rockbands such as All American Rejects and Fallout Boy.

ENGLISH experience

Last Tuesday, November 24, we first met our teacher. I was kinda expecting a taller woman but who cares about sizes, she still has the air of authority. She introduced herself and then explained about our BLOGGING ASSIGNMENT (guess what, this is it) that would last until the end of this semester. Boosham--it would be a long blogging semester. She also imposed the "should-speak-in-English-on-the-classroom" policy and I find it funny because after a few minutes I heard my classmates starting talking back in vernacular. IF I tell my teacher who they were, they will definitely KILL me ha ha. Maybe next time, if I caught them again or something. 'til here and over.

Writing in English:What I Feel About It

Writing in English caused as much anxiety as speaking it. The anxiety or fear of having misspelled words or grammatically wrong phrases and sentences. I have been writing in English since 1st grade and I always feel anxious on my grammar that I have second thoughts on sharing it to other people. Though sometimes I have no choice but to let them read what i had written. That's the essence of writing, we write so that we'll be read. My teachers always tell me that I need constant practice in writing so that I can gain confidence. Well, I did practice a lot. I wrote paragraphs, poems and short stories but my issues of lack of confidence suppressed what I have been practicing. In time though, I could gain the confidence. But I stay anxious to what I write, I mean, who won't?

Aside from anxiousness, I feel thrilled when I write.
